The arrested was identified as Shankar Chandra Shil. Two other alleged rapists named Fenda Mia and Ashis Pal managed to made their escape while the locals caught Shankar red-handed.
After a medical examination, doctors of Khagrachari General Hospital confirmed that the girl had been violated.
Chai Hla Prue Karbari, the traditional leader of the victim’s village, demanded exemplary punishment of the rapists.
Meantime, the Hill Women’s Federation staged a demonstration in Khagrachari town in protest against the gang rape of minority teenage girl.
Speakers at the rally said violence against hill women had been on the rise in an alarming pace and such crimes were being committed due to an environment of impunity.
They regretted that such an incidence had taken place at the lone tourism spot of the district and said it proved Alutila site had become a safe haven for criminals.
HWF organising secretary Rina Dewan and Khagrachair district unit president Madri Chakma and Democratic Youth Forum central leader Priyalal Chakma, amonth others, addressed the rally.

Teenage girl gang-raped
The victim is daughter of Tainghala Marma of Hatimura area in Manikchhari upazila.
Arrestee Shankar Chandra Shil, 25, is son of Sukumar Chandra Shil from Doctortila area of Guimara union under the same upazila.
Officer in-charge (OC) of Matiranga police station Mizanur Rahman said, the girl went to visit Richang Jharna area with her friend Shankar on Wednesday evening.
Shankar with his two friends took the girl to a nearby jungle in a planned way and raped her.
Hearing the hue and cry, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the girl and caught Shankar red-handed while the rest two managed to flee, the OC said.
After primary interrogation, the victim was sent to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for medical test. She filed a case with Matiranga police station in this regard, the OC added.
